Jack Harrison Can Make Fiorentina History This Weekend.

Jack Harrison has traded one relegation scrap for another. The 29-year-old winger has left Leeds United to join Fiorentina on loan until the end of the season, and he could make history in his very first game.

If Harrison scores against Cagliari this weekend, he'll become the first Englishman to find the net for Fiorentina in their entire 100-year existence. That's quite the claim to fame.

The only other English player to debut for La Viola was Micah Richards back in 2014/15. He made 19 appearances on loan from Manchester City but never scored, grabbing just one assist during his spell in Florence.

Harrison hasn't had much game time at Leeds this season. He's made just one Premier League start and featured 13 times total across all competitions, with 10 of those appearances coming off the bench. Even more concerning for Leeds fans? He hasn't registered a single goal or assist.

But here's the thing about Harrison – he always scores. Throughout his entire senior career, he's never gone a full season without at least one goal. That's a streak Fiorentina will be hoping continues in Serie A.

Why This Move Makes Sense

Fiorentina are in serious trouble. They finished sixth last season and qualified for the Conference League, but this campaign has been a disaster. They've won just three of 21 Serie A matches and sit outside the relegation zone only on goal difference.

For bettors keeping track, Fiorentina's recent form shows a slight uptick – they're four matches without a loss for the first time this season. Harrison's arrival could be perfectly timed to help them climb the table, especially with Edin Dzeko moving to Schalke, which opens up space in the attack.

Football expert Andy Brassell sees Harrison fitting in well on the right wing, cutting inside onto his left foot. He could create dangerous combinations with right-back Dodô, who loves making overlapping runs. "There's no way they should be anywhere near the bottom of the table," Brassell told talkSPORT. "It's been a bit of a mess so far this season."

Harrison brings valuable relegation battle experience from his time at Leeds. He was crucial in their survival fight against Brentford a couple of seasons ago. Plus, he's culturally adaptable, having come through US soccer before making his mark in England.

What Harrison Said

The winger sounds excited about his new challenge. "It's a beautiful place here, and I'm excited to get going," Harrison told Fiorentina's website after completing his medical. He even tried out his Italian, shouting "Forza Viola!" for the fans.

"I'm looking forward to embracing the culture and everything about the club, and I'm going to give my all," he added. "Hopefully, we can get back to winning ways and work our way up the table."

For Leeds supporters, this is another chapter closed in their relegation battle. They sit just two places above the drop zone themselves, so letting Harrison go shows they're confident in their current squad depth. For Fiorentina backers, this could be the spark they need to avoid the unthinkable – a club with their ambitions and recent success dropping into Serie B would be shocking.
