Wilfrid Mbappé watched his son from the touchline at AS Bondy and said, "I quickly realized he had something special." That might be the understatement of the last two decades in football.

Kylian Mbappé is now Real Madrid's marquee signing, France's all-time leading scorer, and the holder of the European Golden Boot — the award for the top scorer across all European club leagues. He scored in a World Cup final at 19. He left PSG with 256 goals and six Ligue 1 titles. The list goes on. But behind all of it is a family that has been deeply embedded in his career from the very beginning — and two brothers who became professionals in their own right.

Ethan Mbappé: The One to Watch

Ethan Mbappé, born in 2006, is the brother most likely to register on football radars going forward. He came through AS Bondy — the same local club that shaped Kylian — then moved to PSG's academy. He made his senior debut for PSG in December 2023 at just 15, and in 2024 signed his first professional contract with Lille.

"I think was the best project. It's one of the best clubs in France," Ethan said on joining. A sensible call. Lille have a track record of developing young talent into top-level players, and he'll get more minutes there than he ever would in PSG's shadow. Kylian himself admitted he might have stayed at PSG had Ethan remained — which tells you how seriously the family takes these decisions.

Whether Ethan has anything close to his brother's ceiling remains genuinely unknown. He's 18. But the bloodline and the environment are right, and Lille's odds of producing another elite French talent just got a boost with him in the squad.

Jirès Kembo Ekoko: A Career Already Lived

The older brother is a different story. Jirès Kembo Ekoko was born in Kinshasa in 1988 — what was then Zaire — and came to France at six, eventually becoming the legal ward of Wilfrid Mbappé. His biological father played for Zaire in the 1974 World Cup, so football runs deep on multiple branches of this family tree.

Jirès made over 100 appearances for Rennes across several seasons after signing his first professional contract at 16. He later moved to Al Ain in the UAE before retiring in 2019. A solid career by any measure, even if it never reached the heights his younger brother would eventually scale.

The Parents Running the Operation

Father Wilfrid coached Kylian from childhood, shaping his game with what he described as "passion, generosity, and flair." He spent more than 20 years at AS Bondy before stepping back to advise on football matters as Kylian's profile grew.

Mother Fayza Lamari is the one running the business. A former handball player who competed in the French Women's Handball League, she left her job when Kylian joined Monaco at 15 and never looked back. She now heads several companies — including content production firm Zebra Valley, real estate company Ohzora, and the FLA agency, which represents both Kylian and Ethan. She also manages the Inspired by KM Foundation, which Kylian founded in 2020 to support young people aged 13 to 21 in sport, culture, and education.

On persuading Kylian to donate a share of profits to the foundation, Fayza was refreshingly direct: "At first, I told him we'd split it 50/50. But we discussed it and settled on 30%."

That's the family in a sentence. Sharp, organised, and not leaving anything on the table.
