Lionel Messi has become the first player in MLS history to win the Golden Boot in consecutive seasons, the league confirmed on Saturday, the final day of the regular season.
Messi finished the campaign with a league-high 26 goals in 31 matches for Inter Miami. FC Dallas forward Petar Musa was next with 22 goals, while Nashville SC's Sam Surridge scored 21.
The 39-year-old Argentine had scored 29 goals the previous season, making him only the second player in MLS history to reach at least 25 goals in back-to-back years.
Messi signed a contract extension with Inter Miami through 2028 in October. He also retired from international football earlier this year after 21 years, according to the report.
Inter Miami finished the regular season second in the Eastern Conference. The MLS Cup Playoffs begin on November 19.
