A video circulating on social media shows a football fan wearing LAFC clothing repeatedly shouting "ni hao," a Chinese word meaning hello, toward South Korean star Son Heung-min following the MLS match between LAFC and the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, the New York Post reported, according to Yonhap.
The outlet described the incident as an example of "insensitive and racist microaggression," and the video has drawn accusations of racism on social media.
It was not immediately clear whether LAFC or MLS had responded to the incident.
Some fans have called for the person seen in the video to have his season ticket holder status revoked, if he holds one.
Son has previously disclosed facing racism while playing overseas. In 2024, the Korea Football Association asked FIFA to strengthen punishments for racist behavior in the sport.
