Spain won the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and almost immediately the internet remembered one thing: the Cucurella song. Ferran Torres' 106th-minute goal beat Argentina 1-0, ending Lionel Messi's bid for back-to-back titles — and the curly-haired left-back's chant was back on everyone's timeline before the final whistle had cooled.
The song itself is hard to pin down to a single moment. Chelsea supporters started it during Cucurella's time at Stamford Bridge — he joined from Brighton in August 2022 and stayed until a permanent move to Real Madrid in June 2026. The chant was playful, a bit absurd, and built around two things: his famously long, curly hair and a reference to Spanish beer brand Estrella. Cucurella himself has joked about the inaccuracy — he doesn't actually drink beer — which only made the whole thing more endearing.
The Spanish version that took off
When Spain won Euro 2024, content creator Adri Navarro remixed it for a Spanish audience and that's when it really exploded. The standout line — "Haaland, tiembla, que viene Cucurella" — translates roughly to "Haaland, be afraid, here comes Cucurella." The joke being that Erling Haaland wasn't even at the tournament. Norway didn't qualify. That absurdity is exactly why it worked.
Fan anthems live or die on momentum and repetition. This one has both now. Two major tournament wins in quick succession for Spain, with Cucurella a key figure in the defensive setup both times, means the chant isn't going anywhere.
- Origin: Chelsea FC supporters during Cucurella's time in the Premier League
- Key lyric (Spanish version): "Haaland, tiembla, que viene Cucurella"
- Translation: "Haaland, be afraid, here comes Cucurella"
- Spanish version creator: Content creator Adri Navarro
- Notable reference: Estrella beer — which Cucurella says he doesn't actually drink
Cucurella has embraced both versions of the chant. For a defender who spent years working to be taken seriously at the highest level, having a song this catchy follow him to a World Cup winners' podium is, at minimum, a decent consolation prize.
