Chicago Fire Make Bold Two-Year Offer to Sign Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona.

Robert Lewandowski could be heading to Major League Soccer. The Barcelona striker has reportedly received a two-year contract offer from Chicago Fire as his current deal winds down in June.

At 37 years old, Lewandowski isn't expected to extend his stay at Barcelona. With just five months left on his contract, the Polish superstar is weighing his options. Chicago Fire are making a serious push to bring him stateside after the 2026 World Cup.

According to reports from SPORT, the Fire have already sent an official proposal to Lewandowski. The offer would make him the face of their franchise for two years. This comes after positive discussions between both parties back in December.

The negotiations took another step forward recently when Lewandowski's agent Pini Zahavi met with Chicago Fire owner Joe Mansueto in London. The Fire also hold a key advantage - they own Lewandowski's discovery rights in MLS, giving them first dibs on signing him.

Chicago's Hunt for a European Superstar

Chicago Fire have been desperately searching for a marquee European signing since Bastian Schweinsteiger hung up his boots in 2019. While other MLS clubs landed massive names like Lionel Messi, Thomas Müller, and Son Heung-min, Chicago kept striking out.

The club previously chased Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, and Bernardo Silva. None of them bit. Lewandowski represents their best chance yet to finally land that transformative superstar who can put them back on the map.

Manager Gregg Berhalter seems fully on board with the pursuit. While he won't directly comment on negotiations, he didn't hold back his praise for the Barcelona striker.

"He's a fantastic player," Berhalter said. "There is no player who has scored more goals than Robert Lewandowski in the last 15 years in the top five leagues. He does it everywhere he plays."

What This Means for MLS and Betting Markets

If Lewandowski makes the move, it would be huge for both Chicago and MLS as a whole. The league lost Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets to retirement last season, creating a hunger for more elite European talent.

James Rodríguez recently joined Minnesota United, but Lewandowski would be an even bigger draw. He's still performing at an elite level - he scored 42 goals in 52 games last season as Barcelona won the domestic treble.

Even with reduced playing time this season, Lewandowski has bagged 13 goals across all competitions. That kind of finishing ability would dominate MLS defenses and instantly make Chicago a more attractive betting proposition for the playoffs.

For a team that couldn't get past Round One in the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs, adding Lewandowski could shift them from long shots to legitimate contenders. This would challenge the traditional power structure dominated by Inter Miami, LAFC, and LA Galaxy.
