Tuchel Set to Extend England Stay Through Euro 2028.

Big news for England fans: Thomas Tuchel is staying put. The German manager is expected to sign a new contract that will keep him in charge through Euro 2028, which England will co-host.

This is a major shift from his original plan. Tuchel's current 18-month deal was supposed to end right after this summer's World Cup. That would have made him a free agent and one of the hottest names on the managerial market.

Instead, the FA is locking him down for the long haul. And honestly, it makes perfect sense for both sides.

Why This Matters for England

Tuchel took over from Gareth Southgate back in January 2025. Since then, things have gone brilliantly. England topped their World Cup qualifying group with a perfect record - winning every single game.

When asked in November if he wanted to stay beyond the World Cup, Tuchel was pretty clear. "Yes there is," he said. "It's a lot of fun, especially since we're on track."

For England, having Tuchel committed through 2028 brings real stability. They won't need to worry about losing their manager to clubs like Manchester United, where Tuchel has previously interviewed. Several top European clubs will be hunting for managers this summer, and Tuchel would have been at the top of their lists.

This also means England can head into the World Cup without constant speculation about Tuchel's future. The Three Lions are among the favourites for the tournament, despite not winning it since 1966. They've been drawn against Croatia, Ghana, and Panama in Group L, with potential knockout clashes against Spain, Argentina, or Brazil looming.

The Potential Downside

Of course, there's a flip side to this coin. If England crash out early at the World Cup, the FA could find themselves stuck. Remember Fabio Capello in 2010? He signed an extension right before the World Cup, then England got humiliated by Germany in the last 16.

But that's the risk you take. The FA clearly believes Tuchel is their man for the long term, and his track record at Chelsea, PSG, and Borussia Dortmund backs that up.

England will play Uruguay and Japan at home next month before heading to Florida for warm-up matches against New Zealand and Costa Rica in June. Their World Cup base will be at Sporting Kansas City's Swope Soccer Village in Missouri.

For those eyeing the betting markets, this news adds an interesting dimension. Tuchel's commitment suggests confidence from within the England camp. The stability could make the Three Lions an even more attractive proposition for tournament success, both this summer and looking ahead to Euro 2028 on home soil.
