The world's fastest man might be coming to a local football pitch near you. Usain Bolt has admitted he's ready to join Wythenshawe FC Vets, a non-league team that's gone absolutely viral thanks to their star-studded squad.
Wythenshawe Vets aren't your average Sunday league side. They've got Premier League title winners Danny Drinkwater and Marc Albrighton turning out regularly. Former Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse, ex-Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland, and old Everton forward Oumar Niasse also lace up their boots for the team.
In total, 17 players with top-flight experience are registered with the FA for Wythenshawe Vets. We're talking about former Manchester United star Antonio Valencia, Joleon Lescott, Maynor Figueroa, and Danny Simpson. Even English football legend Emile Heskey has played for them.
The team has absolutely blown up on social media, boasting over 30,000 followers on TikTok. And they're not just famous – they're winning too. Wythenshawe Vets have won all five games in the Cheshire Veterans Football League this season with an incredible +42 goal difference.
Bolt Says He's Ready to Go
Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT from Miami, where he was attending a Formula E event, the eight-time Olympic gold medallist didn't hold back. When asked if he'd join the star-studded squad, Bolt said: "Listen, I'm ready. I'm ready. If I get into some shape, I'm ready to go."
The 39-year-old Jamaican icon has football history. After retiring from athletics in 2017, he joined Australian side Central Coast Mariners in 2018 for a trial. He even scored twice in a friendly for the A-League club.
However, Bolt never signed a professional deal. The Mariners offered him a contract, but couldn't afford his wage demands. He also trained with Norwegian side Stromsgodset and German giants Borussia Dortmund, but nothing came of it.
Apart from featuring in Soccer Aid charity matches, Bolt has kept his boots hung up. Until now, potentially. For non-league defenders in the Cheshire Veterans league, having the fastest man on the planet running at you could be a nightmare scenario.
United Fan Bolt Backs Carrick
The Olympic legend is also a massive Manchester United supporter. He shared his thoughts on the Red Devils' improved form under interim manager Michael Carrick.
"We finally look like we've turned a corner with Carrick because the players look happy, energised, focused, they look ready," Bolt told talkSPORT. He added that while it might be too soon to make Carrick permanent, three more games of positive football could change his mind.
For punters keeping an eye on unusual football stories, Wythenshawe Vets are unbeaten this season and showing no signs of slowing down. If Bolt actually joins them, their viral status would go through the roof – and their already impressive goal difference might get even bigger.
