Luis de la Fuente has signed a six-year contract extension that will keep him as Spain head coach until the end of the 2032 European Championship, the Spanish FA (RFEF) confirmed. The move follows his success leading the national team to the 2024 European Championship and 2026 World Cup titles.
The RFEF's Executive Committee ratified the agreement at a meeting in Madrid on Monday, formally approving a renewal that had actually been agreed during the World Cup. De la Fuente and RFEF president Rafael Louzan were due to hold a press conference later the same day.
The new deal is the longest tenure ever agreed for a Spain head coach and covers three more major tournaments: the 2028 European Championship, the 2030 World Cup, and the 2032 European Championship, which will be held in Turkey and Italy. Sources close to the federation said the contract includes a considerable pay rise, though no figures were disclosed.
A Near-Perfect Record
De la Fuente has delivered three trophies during his time in charge: the Nations League, the European Championship and the World Cup. The one title that got away was the 2025 Nations League, which Spain lost to Portugal on penalties.
Across 50 matches as Spain coach, De la Fuente has won 38, drawn 10 and lost just two. Those defeats came against Scotland — his only loss in a competitive fixture — and Colombia in a friendly played in London.
Spain are currently riding the longest unbeaten run in international football history, having gone 38 matches without a defeat.
