Saudi Arabia is the 2034 World Cup host. Infantino spent a decade building ties with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and played a central role in steering that tournament toward the kingdom. They were photographed together at a Saudi-backed gaming event in Paris just last Sunday. The relationship is real. Which makes the hedged, conditional nature of this statement — "at this time" — genuinely striking.
This isn't a ringing endorsement. It's a lifeline with conditions attached, issued by the one federation that arguably had the most reason to stay loyal. If Infantino can't get unconditional backing from Saudi Arabia, the question of how he survives this with any real authority becomes harder to answer.
