Pochettino Could Make Real Madrid Move After World Cup with USMNT.

Real Madrid might be looking for a new manager this summer, and Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly at the top of their wish list. The Argentine coach is currently leading the United States men's national team, but his contract runs only through this summer's World Cup.

The situation at the Bernabéu has become tricky. Álvaro Arbeloa took over from Xabi Alonso on January 12, but things haven't gone smoothly. Sources say he was never seen as a long-term fix, and his early results have only made matters worse.

Here's the reality: unless Arbeloa pulls off something spectacular - we're talking Champions League trophy spectacular - he's probably not sticking around next season. Real Madrid are already planning major changes behind the scenes, including potential shake-ups in the sporting department and coaching staff.

Why Madrid Want Pochettino

So why Pochettino? Club president Florentino Perez and other decision-makers really rate the former Tottenham boss. He took Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019 and has managed some of the biggest stars in world football at PSG and Chelsea.

One factor Madrid finds particularly appealing? Pochettino already knows Kylian Mbappé from their time together in Paris. They won Ligue 1, the French Cup, and the French Super Cup over two seasons at PSG. That existing relationship could be huge for getting the best out of Madrid's star-studded squad.

For those looking at betting markets for next season's La Liga and Champions League, a potential Pochettino appointment could shift the odds significantly. His track record suggests Madrid would be serious contenders across all competitions.

Of course, his Champions League record at PSG wasn't perfect. They lost to Manchester City in the 2021 semifinals and got knocked out by - ironically - Real Madrid in the round of 16 the following year. Still, Madrid believe he has what it takes to manage elite talent.

Other Names in the Frame

Pochettino isn't the only option being considered. Jürgen Klopp, Unai Emery, and Massimiliano Allegri have all been linked with the role in Spanish media reports.

There's also the Zinedine Zidane factor. Perez absolutely loves the French legend who won multiple Champions League titles with Madrid. But Zidane's return seems unlikely - reports suggest he's already agreed to take charge of France's national team after the World Cup.

Madrid dropped over £170 million in last summer's transfer window after a trophyless campaign. That kind of spending increases the pressure to deliver silverware, and Arbeloa is feeling that heat right now.

The club might keep Arbeloa around in a different capacity if they do make a change. Options being discussed include having him return to coach Real Madrid Castilla or work as a first-team assistant.

Arbeloa still has time to save his job. A strong finish to the season or a deep Champions League run could completely change how the club views his future. But right now, it looks like Pochettino could be trading World Cup preparations for a return to European club football's biggest stage.
