FIFA Pulls Iran's Ticket Allocation Just Days Before the World Cup Starts.

Iran's football federation has revealed that FIFA withdrew the country's entire ticket allocation for the 2026 World Cup with the tournament just days away — leaving fans who had already booked flights and accommodation with nowhere to sit.

"Many Iranian football fans, relying on the officially announced process, had already made the necessary plans to attend the matches," the FFIRI said in a statement. No explanation from FIFA or tournament organisers has been provided. They haven't even acknowledged the question.

A campaign derailed before it starts

This isn't an isolated incident. It's the latest chapter in a months-long saga that has turned Iran's World Cup participation into a political football long before a real one is kicked.

It started with Donald Trump, who posted on March 12 that he didn't think it was "appropriate" for Iran's national team to be at the tournament — raising their safety as the stated concern, but making the underlying message clear enough. FIFA refused to move Iran's group-stage matches out of the United States despite the obvious tension that created.

Then came the visas. Iran's players only received clearance to enter the US ten days before their first match, gutting their preparation window. Fifteen of the 70-person delegation that arrived in Tijuana were denied entry entirely, including what Iran's federation described as "key managerial and administrative members." Iranian ambassador Ali Pasandideh confirmed the numbers.

The federation accused the United States of breaching its host obligations and violating FIFA regulations. FIFA, again, said nothing.

What it means on and off the pitch

Strip away the politics for a moment and think about what Iran are actually dealing with: a coaching setup missing key staff, a squad with almost no acclimatisation time, and now a home support that's been effectively shut out of the stadiums. Any team operating under those conditions is a difficult one to back — and anyone pricing Iran's chances in their group should be accounting for a preparation process that's been sabotaged at every level.

The ticketing withdrawal is, in some ways, the most pointed symbol of all this. Fans who did everything right — followed the official FIFA process, bought tickets, booked travel — are now locked out anyway. Neither FIFA nor the organising committee has offered a word of explanation.

Fifteen members of the Iranian delegation couldn't get into the country. The rest of the fans may not make it into the grounds.
