The Origin Hotel in Kansas City doesn't just have Argentina staying there — it's been turned into an Albiceleste shrine. Sky blue and white from floor to ceiling, Messi's face on the exterior wall, and messages in Spanish welcoming the reigning world champions. The hotel didn't roll out a welcome mat. It rebuilt the entire room.

Argentinian Football Association president Claudio Tapia posted a video on X walking through the transformation, and it's thorough. "Vamos Argentina" greets you at the entrance. "Juntos otra vez" (together again), "Coronado de gloria" (crowned in glory), and "Todos juntos" (all together) are printed across the walls inside. Murals and portraits of Messi, Dibu Martínez, and Julián Álvarez dominate every corridor of the five-story, 118-room property on the banks of the Missouri River.

The logistics behind the base camp

The Origin was built in 2024 in Kansas City's Berkley Riverfront district — one of the city's newer developments. It sits 20 minutes from Argentina's training grounds and 15 minutes from the Chiefs' stadium, where they'll open their title defense on June 16th against Algeria.

From there, the squad heads to Dallas for their final two group-stage matches: Austria at the Cowboys' stadium on June 22nd, then Jordan on the 27th. If they progress — and nobody's seriously betting against that — Kansas City comes back into play for a Round of 32 or quarterfinal fixture.

Argentina are the reigning champions coming into this tournament with Messi still at the center of everything. Their group-stage odds reflect that reality. Algeria, Austria, and Jordan aren't sides that should cause sleepless nights in KC. The real question is how deep into the knockout rounds this squad can go, and whether Messi's legs hold up through a month-long tournament at 37.

For now, at least, the hotel looks ready. Whether the team is, we'll find out on June 16th.
