The FA has confirmed what 12 million people have already seen: young England players throwing punches and kicks in a hotel room while their teammates watched, laughed, and cheered them on.
The 58-second clip, uploaded Wednesday, shows two boys in official England-branded kit exchanging punches, one slamming the other onto a bed by the neck before the fight spills back to standing — headlock, more swings, more encouragement from the room. "F*** him up." "Shut the door." Nobody steps in.
The FA response doesn't quite match the footage
An FA spokesperson confirmed the video is real and involves players from the Under-16s squad, saying it stemmed from "an internal matter during an Under-16s camp in October 2025" that was "quickly resolved at the time."
Quickly resolved. That's one way to frame footage that's now been viewed over 12 million times and prompted near-universal condemnation online. The silence from bystanders in the room is what's drawing as much criticism as the fight itself — not one person tried to stop it.
The squad was in Turkey that autumn, competing against the host nation, Wales, and Portugal. They're coached by Barry Lewtas, who spent 12 years building players at Liverpool's academy before stepping into the international setup.
A squad with a decent record, now with a messy distraction
On the pitch, these players have been impressive. The Under-16s beat Spain on penalties, dispatched Argentina and Mexico, and are scheduled to face Italy in a double-header in Grottammare in late August. That fixture just got considerably more complicated to prepare for.
The FA's "resolved at the time" line suggests no one is getting dropped or sanctioned retroactively. But with the video now public and the optics this bad, that position is going to be harder to hold. Lewtas will face questions about dressing-room culture that no friendly result will answer.
"This was quickly resolved at the time," the FA said. The internet, clearly, disagrees with that timeline.
