Casemiro is heading for the exit at Old Trafford this summer, and right now Inter Miami are the frontrunners to sign him. Fabrizio Romano reports the 34-year-old is 'tempted' by a move to South Florida, with talks ongoing between his camp and the MLS club.
This is not a trial balloon. Casemiro confirmed his departure back in January. What's developed since is a transfer market with genuine options — Saudi Arabia, Serie A clubs, LA Galaxy — and Miami pulling ahead of the pack, largely because of one name: Lionel Messi.
Four goals in six games, and United still won't blink
The irony is that Casemiro has been United's best midfielder down the stretch. Four goals in his last six Premier League appearances, including the opener in Monday's 2-1 win over Brentford under Michael Carrick. That kind of form, from a player supposedly on his way out, would have most clubs reconsidering.
United haven't.
The club have made their position clear: the original decision stands, regardless of how well he's played. Whether that's smart squad management or stubborn cost-cutting depends on who replaces him — and that answer doesn't exist yet.
What Miami are actually getting
Inter Miami won their first MLS Cup in December, beating Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1. So this isn't a retirement trip to a vanity project — it's a genuine title contender adding a Champions League-winning midfielder to a squad that already has Messi.
That said, Miami are struggling right now. They've yet to win a game at their new Nu Stadium and just lost 4-3 to Orlando City. Casemiro would be walking into a team that needs steadying, not celebrating. A defensive midfielder who can organize, break up play, and — apparently — score in bunches might be exactly what they need.
The destinations still in the mix:
- Inter Miami (MLS) — currently leading, per Romano
- Saudi Arabia — interest confirmed
- Serie A clubs — monitoring the situation
- LA Galaxy — also in contention
If Miami close this, their midfield depth becomes one of the most underrated in MLS. That's worth keeping an eye on when the Eastern Conference odds get updated ahead of the second half of the season.
