Zee Entertainment Locks Up Bundesliga Rights in India for Five Years.

Germany's top flight is heading to Zee5. Zee Entertainment Enterprises has secured exclusive broadcast and digital rights to the Bundesliga in India in a five-year deal, with coverage kicking off from the 2026-27 season across its streaming platform Zee5 and Unite8 Sports television channels.

The deal covers live matches, highlights, and dedicated programming — the full package. It also sits alongside Zee's existing FIFA World Cup rights, which means the company is quietly becoming the dominant force in football broadcasting on the subcontinent.

A market that's already moving

The Bundesliga's Indian fanbase has grown by over 50% across the last four seasons. That's not a vanity metric — it reflects real investment from the league through club activations, grassroots programmes, and youth development work already underway on the ground. This deal accelerates that trajectory with a proper distribution infrastructure behind it.

Peer Naubert, chief commercial officer of Bundesliga Media, framed it plainly: "India is not simply a market for the Bundesliga; it is a country where we have consistently invested in football, in partnerships and in people." That's a league that understands the difference between slapping a logo on a region and actually building something there.

For Indian football fans, the appeal is obvious. Kane, Musiala, Olise, Kimmich — the Bundesliga roster reads like a who's who of international football right now, and none of it was available on a major Indian platform in any consistent, dedicated way before this.

The grassroots piece matters more than it sounds

Zee had already committed to directing 15% of Zee5's football-related subscription revenues toward youth development in India — meaning every subscriber effectively has a stake in that funding pipeline. Under the new deal, Zee and the Bundesliga will jointly launch the Z X Bundesliga Football Week, bringing coaching clinics and development programmes to young players across the country.

  • Live Bundesliga matches available on Zee5 and Unite8 Sports from 2026-27
  • Full highlights and shoulder programming included
  • 15% of Zee5 football subscription revenues directed to Indian youth development
  • Z X Bundesliga Football Week to deliver grassroots coaching clinics nationally
  • Bundesliga India fanbase already up 50%+ across the last four seasons

Zee Entertainment operates across more than 190 countries with a stated reach of 1.4 billion people. The Bundesliga just found itself a serious distribution partner — and a market that's clearly ready for it.
