Well, that didn't last long. Eric Ramsay's time as West Brom boss has come to a swift and brutal end after just nine matches without a single win. The former Manchester United coach got his marching orders late Tuesday night, with the club announcing his departure at 11:15pm.

The 34-year-old only joined the Baggies last month after they parted ways with Ryan Mason. But his stint at the Hawthorns has been nothing short of a nightmare. Zero wins from nine games tells you everything you need to know about how badly things went.

The timing of the sacking is pretty telling too. It came just hours after West Brom's 1-1 draw at home against Charlton Athletic. That result extended their winless run to 10 matches overall, though two of those came before Ramsay even arrived.

Relegation Battle Looming Large

Here's where things get really scary for West Brom fans. The club currently sits 21st in the Championship table, just one measly point above the relegation zone. With only 12 games left to play, they're in serious danger of dropping into League One.

For anyone with bets on West Brom finishing in mid-table or higher, this season has been an absolute disaster. The club will now turn to James Morrison on an interim basis to try and steer them away from the drop. Assistant coach Dennis Lawrence has also left alongside Ramsay.

From Old Trafford to Unemployment

Ramsay built quite a reputation during his time at Manchester United. He worked under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Erik ten Hag from 2021 onwards. His ability to speak fluent Spanish and French made him invaluable for integrating foreign stars like Casemiro.

Before joining West Brom, he spent two years with Minnesota United in MLS. He even had a brief stint as Wales assistant coach in 2023, with then-boss Rob Page calling him "arguably one of the best young coaches in football." That praise feels like a lifetime ago now.

After the Charlton draw, Ramsay admitted he wasn't blameless for the situation. "I can only do what I can do over the course of a day and put my head on the pillow at night feeling I've turned over every stone," he told BBC WM. Unfortunately for him, those efforts weren't enough to save his job.
