Wayne Rooney has pushed back on speculation that he used weight-loss injections to explain his slimmer look, insisting instead that it's down to hard work in the gym. Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of the release of his and wife Coleen's new Disney+ series, The Real Rooneys, the former England captain laughed off the claims.
"It's a shame, because I'm working really hard to lose weight," Rooney said.
The 40-year-old also addressed recent surgery on his nose, making clear it wasn't done for cosmetic reasons. Rooney said he broke his nose twice during his playing career and had eventually struggled to breathe properly through one side of it, which prompted him to finally get it fixed.
"I couldn't blow one side out of my nose and so I had it fixed," he explained.
Coleen added that she'd been pushing him toward the procedure for a while, for a rather different reason. "I tried to get him to do it because of his snoring," she said.
Two Breaks, Years of Delay
Rooney's nose troubles date back to a 2015 FA Cup match for Manchester United against Preston North End, where he first broke it. He broke it again later in his career while playing for DC United against Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.
Despite the discomfort, Rooney said he put off having surgery for years before finally going through with it after the 2026 World Cup. He later gave an update on his Stick to United podcast, revealing he was recovering from the operation with plastic tubes still in his nose to help the healing process.
New Chapter On and Off Screen
The comments arrive as Rooney and Coleen roll out The Real Rooneys, a 10-part Disney+ documentary offering a look inside their family life and careers. The series also follows their four sons, Kai (16), Klay (13), Kit (10) and Cass (8), during a period that has seen Rooney step back from football management and lean further into media work.
The Real Rooneys premiered on Disney+ on Thursday.
