Turkish Airlines Replace Standard Chartered as Liverpool's Shirt Sponsor in £300M Deal.

Liverpool have ended a 17-year relationship with Standard Chartered on the front of their shirt, confirming Turkish Airlines as their new principal sponsor in a five-year deal worth £300 million — roughly £60 million a year from the 2027/28 season onward.

That annual figure matters. The existing Standard Chartered arrangement, signed in 2022, brought in around £50 million per year. Liverpool wanted parity with Manchester United's £60 million-a-year Snapdragon deal, and they've got it. Commercially, this is the club catching up to where they already are on the pitch.

What Turkish Airlines actually brings to the table

This isn't some regional carrier getting a vanity deal. Turkish Airlines flies to more countries than any other airline in the world and ranks fourth globally by size. They've had commercial arrangements with Manchester United, Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund — but never as front-of-shirt sponsor for any of them. Liverpool is a step up in visibility for the airline, and both sides know it.

Liverpool chief commercial officer Ben Latty leaned into the 2005 Istanbul connection in his statement — the Champions League final that defined a generation of Liverpool fans — and it's a smart piece of brand storytelling, even if the partnership itself is brand new.

Standard Chartered aren't disappearing entirely. They transition to a global partner role from next season, which softens the break but doesn't change what it is: the end of an era that ran through Gerrard's last years, Klopp's entire tenure, and the club's return to the top of European football.

The commercial picture heading into 2027/28

Liverpool already claim more standalone retail outlets than any club in world sport, lead the Premier League in social media engagement with 1.5 billion interactions last season, and draw a higher average TV audience than any major European side over the past six years. Turkish Airlines are buying into a global platform, not just a football club.

From a betting market perspective, commercial muscle of this scale feeds directly into transfer ambition. Clubs with growing sponsorship revenue have more flexibility in squad building — Liverpool's ability to compete in future windows just got a financial injection that compounds over five years.

Turkish Airlines will become only the third front-of-shirt sponsor in Liverpool's history across the last 35 years, following Carlsberg's 18-year run and Standard Chartered's 17. The bar for longevity has already been set extremely high. Whether this partnership reaches those lengths depends on what Liverpool look like on the pitch — but financially, the foundations are now firmly in place.

As Ahmet Olmustur, Turkish Airlines CEO, put it: "Our name will take its place on one of the most iconic shirts in world sport." That's not spin. It's just accurate.
