Lionel Messi hit a landmark on Wednesday night, scoring his 100th goal for Inter Miami as the club beat Cruz Azul 2-0 to win the Campeones Cup. The Argentine, now 39, reached the century mark in just 115 official appearances in pink.
The milestone arrived alongside more silverware, which by now feels like the pattern of Messi's time in Florida. It's a run that began in July 2023, when he joined a Miami side sitting bottom of the MLS overall standings. Within weeks of his debut, the club had won the Leagues Cup, the first trophy in its history, with Messi as the central figure.
A Trophy Haul That Kept Growing
That first title was only the start. In 2024, Inter Miami won the MLS Supporters' Shield for the league's best regular-season record, also setting a new points record in the process. In 2025, they added the Eastern Conference title and then the MLS Cup itself.
Individually, Messi's numbers have matched the team's success. Across those 115 matches he has racked up 58 assists alongside his 100 goals, a combined average of 1.4 goal contributions per game. He was named MLS MVP in both 2024 and 2025, and claimed the 2025 Golden Boot after finishing the regular season with 29 goals.
The form hasn't dropped off with age. In the 2026 season, Messi currently leads the MLS scoring charts with 19 goals in 22 matches, adding 12 assists on top.
Old Friends, New Stage
Messi hasn't done this alone. Former Barcelona teammates such as Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba followed him to Miami, and their arrival helped open the door for other established names to take MLS seriously as a destination.
The 100 goals are a number worth marking, but they sit inside a bigger story: four trophies since 2023, record-breaking seasons, and a version of MLS that looks markedly different from the one Messi joined a little over three years ago.
