What a difference a manager makes. Just weeks ago, Kobbie Mainoo looked destined to leave Manchester United. Now? The club are ready to hand him a brand new contract.

Michael Carrick's arrival as interim boss has completely transformed the 20-year-old midfielder's prospects. After just one game under the Champions League winner, United want to tie down their young star with improved terms.

Mainoo put in a standout performance in Carrick's debut match – a 2-0 derby win over Manchester City. It was exactly the kind of display that reminded everyone why he's so highly rated. The timing couldn't have been better.

The youngster's current deal runs until 2027, with United holding an option for another year. But here's the kicker – he's only earning £25,000 a week. That's pocket change compared to some of his teammates.

According to Sky Sports News, his new contract will bring his wages more in line with the squad average. That should be enough to convince him to stay after becoming frustrated under previous boss Ruben Amorim.

Under Amorim, Mainoo didn't start a single league game this season. No wonder clubs like Napoli and Chelsea were circling. But that interest has cooled considerably now he's back in the starting XI and impressing. For those backing United to climb the table, having Mainoo firing on all cylinders could be crucial to their hopes.

Casemiro Confirms Summer Departure

While Mainoo's future looks bright, another midfielder is definitely leaving. Casemiro announced on Thursday that he'll depart Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer.

"I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life," the Brazilian veteran said. He's determined to finish strong, promising to give everything for the remaining four months of the season.

The 32-year-old won't be short of options. LA Galaxy are reportedly interested in bringing him to MLS, especially with the World Cup coming to North America. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Brazil are also keen.

Money talks though. Casemiro currently earns £375,000 a week at United – making him the club's top earner. Saudi clubs are the only ones likely to match or exceed that figure. MLS and Brazilian teams simply can't compete with those oil-fueled wages.

For United, losing Casemiro's experience will be a blow. But if Mainoo continues his revival under Carrick, it might not hurt as much as expected. The changing of the guard at Old Trafford is well underway.
