Forbes Rankings: Ronaldo Projected to Earn Double Messi's Income Next Season.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi remain the two highest-paid footballers on the planet, according to Forbes' latest rankings, but a significant earnings gap separates them heading into the 2026-27 season. Ronaldo is projected to earn around $300 million, more than double Messi's estimated $145 million.

At 41, Ronaldo has topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid footballers for the fourth consecutive time. The Portugal captain is projected to make $250 million from his playing contract with Al Nassr in 2026-27, with another $50 million expected to come from endorsements and other business interests.

Messi sits second on the list with projected earnings of $145 million. The Inter Miami forward is set to receive $70 million in salary and other playing-related compensation from the Major League Soccer club, while his off-field ventures, including endorsements and commercial partnerships, are expected to bring in a further $75 million.

The two stars draw their income from different sources. Ronaldo's earnings lean heavily on his football contract, while Messi generates more from activities outside the pitch.

Combined, the pair are projected to earn $445 million in the 2026-27 season. That figure accounts for almost half of the $942 million that Forbes estimates the ten highest-paid footballers will collectively earn.
