Fermín López has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United, insisting he wants to spend the rest of his career at Barcelona. The midfielder spoke about his future after scoring and setting up two goals in Barcelona's 6-1 win over Alavés on Saturday, a result that kept the La Liga champions top of the table.
Speaking after the final whistle, via The Mirror, López said: "Manchester United links? I don't pay attention to that kind of news. I want to stay here at Barcelona as long as possible. I hope to end my football career at this club and retire here."
López has enjoyed a strong start to the season, contributing six goals and six assists in 13 appearances across all competitions, and starting eight of Barcelona's 11 league matches so far. United are reportedly looking to add more goals and creativity to their midfield, with López said to have emerged as a potential target for next summer.
The Spaniard also attracted interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain last year, with Chelsea reportedly having a £37 million ($50 million) offer turned down for him. A rejection of any future move would be notable for United given that captain Bruno Fernandes, their primary attacking threat, is entering the final year of his contract. Fernandes registered 31 goal involvements last season, just one more than López managed during Barcelona's title-winning campaign.
Hansi Flick's side have accumulated 30 points so far this season and appear on course for a third straight league title. López's recent form follows a difficult summer in which injury ruled him out of Spain's FIFA World Cup squad, leaving him to watch from the sidelines as his country claimed the trophy for a second time.
