Bruno Fernandes Restored to Man United Team and Captaincy for Chelsea Clash, a Week After Being Dropped.

Bruno Fernandes has been restored to Manchester United's team for Saturday's Premier League match at Chelsea, a week after being dropped following criticism of manager Michael Carrick's tactics. The Portugal international was selected for the game at Stamford Bridge and has retained the captaincy.

Carrick confirmed Fernandes would keep the armband during his pre-match news conference on Thursday, saying the midfielder was "fully committed" to United.

Fernandes, who was named player of the year in English soccer last season, was left among the replacements for United's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth last Sunday. That decision came days after he made critical comments about how Carrick had set up the team during a 4-1 Champions League loss to Como.

Fernandes never made it onto the field against Bournemouth despite being sent out to warm up, even as Carrick made four second-half substitutions.

"He cares deeply about this football club and the team and he's desperate to do well," Carrick said about Fernandes on Thursday, "so we will lead that together."
