Boston Legacy FC just gave fans their first look at what they'll be wearing on the pitch this season. The new NWSL expansion team unveiled their inaugural home kit, called the 'First Light' jersey, and it's packed with local flavor.
The green jersey isn't just about looking good. It's a direct nod to Boston's iconic parks, especially Franklin Park where the team will eventually call home. There's even a clever detail on the hem tag showing two bears holding a soccer ball, inspired by the historic bear habitat at Franklin Park Zoo.
The kit features three major sponsors plastered across it. T.J. Maxx, the Framingham-based retailer, takes center stage on the front. Hyundai Motor America sits on the sleeve, while Voya Financial rounds out the trio on the lower back.
Building a Legacy from Day One
President Jennifer van Dijk didn't hold back her excitement about the design. "This is the foundational kit upon which we will build our legacy," she said. The green is meant to stand out in a league already full of standout teams.
Head coach Filipa Patão echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the team's responsibility to supporters. "When we step foot on the field, we are here to play exciting football," she explained. The jersey is designed to give fans that same feeling of excitement.
If you're looking to snag one, jerseys are available now at bostonlegacyfc.com, nwslshop.com, Amazon, and various retail stores including Dick's Sporting Goods and Nike. This is just the first of two kits, with the secondary design dropping on February 26.
What This Means for Their Debut Season
Boston Legacy is one of two expansion clubs joining the NWSL this year alongside Denver. They'll split home games between Gillette Stadium and Rhode Island's Centreville Bank Stadium until White Stadium renovations are done.
The season opener is a big one. They face reigning NWSL champion Gotham FC on March 14 in Foxborough. That's a brutal first test for any expansion team, and bettors should take note of the challenge ahead.
The team is currently grinding through training camp. They spent three weeks at IMG Academy in Florida, played a scrimmage against Washington Spirit, and are now in Spain for four more preseason matches. General manager Domè Guasch says this preseason is all about building trust and connections that will define the team's identity.
For an expansion side, the early odds won't be favorable against established NWSL powerhouses. But with strong backing, local pride, and serious preparation, Boston Legacy could surprise some people this season.
