"I dreamed again about aliens invading the soccer field in Miami. I clearly saw the players being carried off by the first ship that arrived." That's not a movie pitch. That's a real prediction about Wednesday's Brazil vs Scotland Group C match, delivered in full seriousness by Brazilian self-proclaimed psychic Vo Bahiana.
According to Bahiana, the mothership arrives after the first wave, scooping up thousands of fans from the stands. She's dreamed it twice now, which apparently makes it twice as credible. The match is in Miami on the 24th, and she is, by her own admission, "very terrified."
A Group C match that matters — aliens or not
The football stakes are real enough without extraterrestrial interference. Brazil need a win to advance to the Round of 32. Scotland are in a tighter spot: a draw keeps their hopes alive as a best third-place finisher, a win and they could top the group. For any side fancying Brazil to go deep in this tournament, a labored performance or dropped points here would be the first real warning sign.
Neymar and Vinicius Jr. beamed up mid-match would admittedly cause some late team news headaches for punters. Brazil's odds are built almost entirely around that front line functioning — no aliens, no asterisks.
Not even the only cursed prediction this week
Bahiana isn't alone in her methods. Ghanaian witch doctor Nana Kwaku Bonsam — "Devil of Wednesday" in translation — told the Daily Star he has cast black magic on Harry Kane ahead of England's clash with Ghana. He was measured about it: "I am not wishing him serious injury. It will be just enough to stop him against my country."
He's also claiming credit for a knee injury that threatened Cristiano Ronaldo's 2014 World Cup participation before Portugal faced Ghana. Make of that what you will.
