Zinedine Zidane named his first France squad at the French Football Federation headquarters, unveiling a mix of surprise inclusions and a notable recall ahead of the season's opening international break.
The headline call-up is centre back Jérémy Jacquet, who has impressed with a strong start to the season at Liverpool. He's joined by fellow newcomers Andy Diouf, Como's Da Cunha, Rennes striker Lepaul and highly rated goalkeeper Guillaume Restes.
Camavinga's Return
The biggest story from Zidane's first squad, though, is the recall of Eduardo Camavinga. The Real Madrid midfielder was a last-minute omission from France's squad for the most recent World Cup, and despite limited minutes at Madrid so far this season, Zidane clearly places a high value on his versatility and his ability to operate in multiple midfield roles.
Notable Absences
There are just as many talking points among those left out. Neither of the Hernández brothers has been picked to fill the left side of the squad, while Aurélien Tchouaméni stays in Madrid as he continues recovering from the physical issues that have kept him out at the start of the season.
N'Golo Kanté, Lucas Digne and Marcus Thuram are among the other established names who did not receive a call-up from Zidane for his first France roster.
What's Next
France begin their Nations League campaign against Turkey at Kocaeli Stadium on Friday, September 25 - Zidane's first game in charge - before facing Belgium in Brussels three days later. The group phase continues with home fixtures against Italy on October 2 and Belgium on October 5, both at the Stade de France, ahead of the concluding away trip to Italy and a home game against Turkey in the November window.
