Which Transfer Windows Are Still Open? Free Agents Still Available.

Think the transfer window is completely shut? Think again. Just because the Premier League and major European leagues have closed their doors doesn't mean deals can't still happen. Clubs can still sell players if the buying team's window remains open.

Turkish clubs have until February 6 to do business, which could shake things up for European teams. Remember, this isn't new. Last summer, Manchester City offloaded Ederson to Fenerbahce and Manchester United shipped Andre Onana to Trabzonspor after the English deadline had passed.

Major League Soccer clubs are particularly active right now. Their window opened on January 26 and doesn't close until March 26. That's over a month after the MLS season kicks off on February 21. Toronto FC are currently chasing Norwich City's Josh Sargent, and they've got plenty of time to seal that deal.

In South America, Brazilian clubs can sign players until March 3, while Argentine teams have until March 10. Mexican clubs have until February 9, and Australian sides can operate until February 10. If you're tracking potential squad changes that could impact form and betting odds, keep these dates in mind.

January's Biggest Moves

Marc Guehi's future dominated January headlines. Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool all wanted the Crystal Palace defender. Manchester City won the race with a £20 million package plus bonuses and a sell-on clause.

City also grabbed Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £62.5 million, making it January's most expensive deal. Lucas Paqueta's £35.8 million move from West Ham to Flamengo surprised many, while Tottenham brought Conor Gallagher back to England from Atletico Madrid for £34.7 million.

Crystal Palace broke their transfer record twice in the same window. First, they signed Brennan Johnson from Spurs for around £35 million. Then they smashed that record by landing Jorgen Strand Larsen for £43 million plus £5 million in add-ons.

Top Free Agents Still Available

Free agents can join clubs anytime during the season. The catch? They can only be registered if there's space in the 25-player squad list. Premier League squads also can't have more than 17 non-home-grown players.

Raheem Sterling is the biggest name on the free agent market. Chelsea released the 31-year-old by mutual consent on January 28 after he hadn't played competitively for them since May 2024. Sterling counts as home-grown, making him attractive to Premier League clubs.

Other notable free agents include Kurt Zouma, Ryan Kent, James Rodriguez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Dele Alli. Rodriguez, the Colombian playmaker, left Mexican side Club Leon and could still contribute at a decent level. Zouma, formerly West Ham's captain, last played in Romania with CFR Cluj.

For clubs struggling near the relegation zone or pushing for European spots, these free agents offer squad depth without transfer fees. The National League also operates differently, with clubs able to sign players until March 26, often becoming the destination for Premier League youngsters seeking playing time.
