Washington DC Gets a Free World Cup Fan Zone on the National Mall.

The National Mall is getting a World Cup takeover. Freedom 250 and FIFA have confirmed a free fan zone in Washington, D.C., running from June 11 through July 19, 2026 — right in the shadow of America's most recognizable monuments.

General admission is free. Registration is available for those who want it, but nobody's getting turned away at the door. The zone sits between 3rd and 4th Street on the National Mall, which, for sheer backdrop, is hard to beat for a football party.

What's actually showing and when

The schedule is where it gets detailed. During the group stage (June 11–27), matches kicking off after 7 p.m. Eastern won't be screened — with one exception: every USA match gets shown regardless of time. From June 28 onward through the final, all matches are on. The zone opens an hour before the first match of the day and closes an hour after the last.

July 4 runs until midnight. The bronze final on July 18 goes from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The World Cup final on July 19 wraps up at 6 p.m. Eastern. The site goes dark on July 8, 12, 13, 16, and 17.

Beyond the screens, the setup includes interactive exhibits, cultural showcases, youth programming, food, and music. The kind of thing that pulls in people who've never placed a pre-match bet in their lives alongside those who've been watching group stage odds shift since the draw.

The bigger picture

FIFA President Gianni Infantino framed it as "an extraordinary partnership" and leaned into the symbolism of hosting a World Cup celebration at America's 250th birthday moment. That framing isn't wrong — 2026 is the first World Cup in the United States since 1994, and the appetite for it is real.

Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach put it simply: "This will be a place where people from every corner of the globe come together through sport, freedom, and shared human experience."

Whether you're tracking the knockout bracket or just looking for somewhere to watch the USA group stage matches without paying a bar tab, this is about as accessible as it gets. Washington is one of sixteen host cities for the tournament — having a central, free gathering space for the entire run of it is a legitimate draw for the city.
