Tottenham Hotspur have retained their first-option matching rights on Harry Kane despite the England captain signing a new contract with Bayern Munich, according to an exclusive report from the Telegraph. The arrangement means Spurs would have the right to match any future bid that a rival club agrees with Bayern for Kane.
The clause remains in place even though Kane has just put pen to paper on a bumper new deal in Munich. A report published the same day said the new contract makes Kane the highest-paid player in Bayern Munich's 126-year history.
The new deal arrived shortly after Kane won the 2026 Ballon d'Or, becoming the first English recipient of the award since Michael Owen in 2001, and as he approaches becoming England's most-capped player during the upcoming international break.
