Chelsea won't say Pedro Neto is for sale. But "available for the right price" in transfer-window language means exactly that. At least four Premier League clubs have registered serious interest in the Portuguese winger, and the window doesn't close for another month.
Neto, 26, cost Chelsea £51.4 million from Wolves in 2024. He repaid that faith reasonably well last season — 10 goals and 10 assists across 52 appearances — but he's not untouchable. In a squad as bloated with wide options as Chelsea's, that distinction matters.
Why City's interest makes sense
Manchester City are the standout name among the interested clubs. Enzo Maresca, who managed Neto at Stamford Bridge, is a known admirer. That personal connection counts for something — coaches who've already built trust with a player tend to get more out of them from day one.
City's pursuit is also contingent on Savinho's future. Tottenham are currently frontrunners for the Brazilian, and if that deal gets done, expect City to move harder on Neto. The two transfers are linked in all but name.
Pricing will be the real sticking point. Chelsea will look at the market and point to context: Yan Diomande went to Real Madrid for around £120 million this summer, and PSG are reportedly demanding even more for Bradley Barcola. Neto won't command those figures, but Chelsea won't be selling at a discount either.
Chelsea can afford to let him go
If Neto does leave, the cover is already there. Jamie Gittens, Mykhailo Mudryk, Estevao Willian, Geovany Quenda, Dastan Satpayev, and Cole Palmer can all operate wide. That's not a list that suggests Chelsea need to cling to anyone.
For now, Neto is expected to travel with the squad to Fulham on August 24 for Xabi Alonso's first Premier League game in charge. Whether he's still a Chelsea player by the deadline is a different question entirely.
