Four former Bayern Munich players — Thomas Mueller, Mats Hummels, Yann Sommer, and Lucas Hernandez — are now part-owners of Estrela da Amadora after an international consortium completed a €40 million acquisition of a 90% stake in the Portuguese club.
The group is led by ADvantage and LEAD, with backing from the KI Group. Between them, the four footballers represent two World Cup winners' medals — Mueller and Hummels lifted the trophy in Brazil in 2014, Hernandez in Russia four years later. Sommer, the Swiss goalkeeper now at Club Brugge, brings European pedigree to the table.
A 15th-placed club with serious new backing
Let's be clear about where Estrela da Amadora currently sit: 15th in the Primeira Liga last season, freshly reformed as recently as 2020 after the original club collapsed under financial pressure nine years earlier. This isn't Bayern Munich buying a glamour project. It's a consortium betting on a club with almost nothing to lose and a league slot to build from.
That €40 million price tag for a majority stake in a newly reconstructed bottom-half Primeira Liga side is a notable outlay. It signals genuine ambition, not a vanity purchase. Whether the footballing infrastructure follows the investment is the real question.
For Estrela's relegation battle next season, the money and the profile this brings could matter. Stability at board level tends to flow down to the pitch — and a club that's spent its entire modern existence firefighting might finally have the runway to do something more interesting than survive.
