FIFA and FIFPRO rules require all World Cup participants to take a mandatory 21-day rest period after their tournament ends. That draws a tentative line around August 9. Hoyos made clear no specific return date has been set, and Inter Miami are happy to give Messi as long as he needs — which means it could easily be mid-August before he pulls on the pink shirt again.
That window rules out the MLS All-Star Game on July 29. He won't be there. Anyone who had Messi featuring in that showcase can tear up that ticket now.
What it also does is compress Inter Miami's competitive calendar considerably. The club has fixtures stacking up, and there's only so long they can paper over the gap that Messi's absence leaves.
