Mbekezeli Mbokazi, the former Orlando Pirates centre-back now playing for Chicago Fire, has been named to the 2026 MLS 22 Under 22 list, ranking No. 4 in his first year in Major League Soccer.
According to recent data from the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), Mbokazi is currently the highest-valued player in MLS.
Chicago Fire confirmed the recognition in an official statement, noting that this marks the fifth time a Fire player has been named within the Top 5 of the list. The club's statement read: "Chicago Fire FC defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi was named to the 2026 22 Under 22 class in his first year in Major League Soccer. Mbokazi was ranked No. 4, marking the fifth time a Fire player has been named within the Top 5 of the prestigious list."
The ranking further highlights Mbokazi's reputation as one of the most promising young talents playing outside Europe's top five leagues at this moment.
