"I hated running." That's Marshawn Lynch's explanation for never pursuing a career with Seattle Sounders FC. Twelve NFL seasons, 12,000-plus all-purpose yards, over 90 touchdowns — and the man who made a living running over people drew the line at running without stopping.
Lynch appeared on the Men In Blazers podcast and was asked about the possibility of playing for the Sounders. His answer was blunt, honest, and completely on brand. Soccer's continuous play — no TV timeouts, no huddles, substitutions capped at a handful — is a different physical demand entirely compared to the stop-start rhythm of the NFL. Lynch knew it. He wanted no part of it.
Lynch showing up for the USMNT
What Lynch won't do on a pitch, he's happy to do in the stands. He attended the USMNT's opener against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium on June 12, then turned up in Seattle to watch the Americans beat Australia 2-0. When he appeared on the Jumbotron, the Seattle crowd gave him exactly the reception you'd expect. A Brazilian announcer threw in some praise for good measure.
Lynch spoke about the Paraguay game too — the fan cultures colliding, the atmosphere at SoFi. For someone who built his legend in Seattle, watching international football bring that same crowd energy clearly landed.
The USMNT has already clinched a Round of 32 spot at the 2026 World Cup, becoming the first team in the tournament to do so. Their final group game is against Turkey on June 25, back at SoFi Stadium. Beast Mode will presumably be watching — just from a comfortable seat, not a soccer pitch.
