Joe Hart has an interesting take on Pep Guardiola's future at Manchester City. The former City goalkeeper reckons his old boss won't be worrying about contract talks until the season wraps up. And here's the kicker – Hart thinks Guardiola might finish his entire managerial career in Manchester.

Guardiola signed a contract extension back in November 2024 that keeps him at the Etihad through 2027. But the rumor mill has been working overtime lately. Erling Haaland dropped hints about his manager potentially leaving, and word got out that former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca had discussions with City about possibly taking over.

The club is apparently eyeing potential successors, and Guardiola himself said in May 2025 he'd be "taking a break" from management when he eventually leaves City. That's got everyone wondering what's next for the 55-year-old.

Hart Sees a Different Future for Guardiola

But Hart, who's gearing up for Soccer Aid 2026 at the London Stadium, sees things differently. He told the Manchester Evening News that Guardiola might not just finish his contract – he could transition into a behind-the-scenes role at City instead of moving to another club.

"I don't think, if and when he leaves Manchester City, it'll be necessary to be on the move elsewhere," Hart explained. "He's tied to that club; he absolutely adores that club. And the club adores him. So whatever decisions get made, it will be a joint decision."

The former England international made a crucial point about timing. Right now, City are hunting silverware across four competitions. They're five points behind Arsenal in the Premier League race, though the Gunners have played one more game.

Silverware First, Contracts Later

Hart emphasized that contract talks are the last thing on anyone's mind at City. "There's way too much to think about to worry about contracts," he said. "You can't afford to think about yourself in these moments."

And there's plenty to think about. Guardiola's side face a massive FA Cup clash with Newcastle, a two-legged Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, and the Carabao Cup final against title rivals Arsenal. For anyone considering betting on City's season, their congested fixture list and Guardiola's focus on the immediate battles could be crucial factors.

Guardiola himself has made it clear that mentality will decide everything in these final months. Speaking in February, he said the team has improved but now it's all about the "little details" and what's "in your brain and your mind."

Hart's theory about Guardiola staying at City in some capacity makes sense when you consider how deeply connected the manager is to the club. Whether he sees out his current deal or takes on a different role, one thing's certain – the love affair between Pep and City isn't ending anytime soon.
