Djokovic's Football Passion Runs Deep
Djokovic joined Le Mans last August alongside Brazilian investment consortium OutField. The club president Thierry Gomez praised the mix of sporting backgrounds. He said the combination of motorsport heritage, football passion, and tennis's global reach creates something unique.
And Djokovic genuinely loves football. He admitted back in 2018 that soccer was actually his first love as a kid. His father was a professional footballer, and young Novak watched AC Milan games religiously at home.
He's a massive Milan supporter and friends with Zlatan Ibrahimović, who he calls his favorite player. The connection got so strong that Milan's owner reportedly considered bringing Djokovic in as a mental coach in 2024.
The Tennis Connection Goes Both Ways
Courtois has his own tennis story. He's actually an Andy Murray fan, not a Djokovic supporter on the court. The Belgian met Murray at a 2014 charity match in Madrid and they became friends.
Courtois told reporters he watches tennis to improve his goalkeeping, especially footwork and positioning. He even played regional tennis competitions himself when he was younger.
Le Mans sits mid-table in Ligue 2 right now, but with this backing, promotion ambitions seem realistic. For bettors watching the French second division, this club just became way more interesting.
