Shane Duffy Agrees Two-Month Contract With Derby County.

Republic of Ireland centre-half Shane Duffy has signed a two-month deal with Championship club Derby County, ending a spell as a free agent that began in June.

Duffy, 34, left Norwich City at the end of last season when his contract there expired. He has now been handed an initial short-term deal at Derby after impressing the club during a trial period.

Derby are managed by John Eustace, who served as Stephen Kenny's assistant with the Republic of Ireland in 2022. The club sit second from bottom in the Championship table, having won just once in their opening 12 games of the season.

Duffy is closing in on 500 professional appearances across club and international football. He made more than 150 appearances during a six-season spell with Brighton and Hove Albion, including 109 in the Premier League, and has extensive experience in the second tier with 217 Championship appearances to his name.

Capped 61 times by the Republic of Ireland, the Derry native will be available for Derby's trip to Millwall on Saturday.

Derby are currently short of defensive options, with Ireland Under-21 centre-back Eiran Cashin sidelined by a calf injury. Cashin, who began his career at Pride Park, rejoined Derby on loan from Brighton in September for the remainder of the season.
