Why Arsenal are willing to sell
Jesus is entering the final year of his contract and has barely featured. Three Premier League starts last season — three — tells you everything about where he stands at the Emirates. Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz ate his minutes, and at 29, waiting another year on the bench to run down a contract isn't a realistic option. Arsenal setting an asking price of £18m suggests they want a clean exit rather than a free transfer problem next summer.
For any side considering his signing, the fitness record is the one thing you can't ignore. Jesus has spent more time in the treatment room than on the pitch over the past two seasons. Napoli would be betting on a bounce-back, which shifts the risk calculation considerably when pricing up Serie A top-four markets.
The Lukaku and Lucca problem
Lukaku is the more realistic exit. The 33-year-old made just seven league appearances in 2025/26 due to injury and has genuine interest from Atlanta United in MLS — a move that makes sense for everyone involved. Lucca's situation is thornier. A loan at Nottingham Forest produced 127 minutes and one goal. That's not a track record that attracts buyers.

Napoli are also in talks to bring Benoît Badiashile in from Chelsea on loan, with the Blues pushing for a permanent deal. Rebuilding a squad is one thing — doing it while managing three separate forward situations simultaneously is where the summer gets complicated.
Jesus to Naples makes football sense. Whether the logistics cooperate is another matter entirely.
