Man Utd Legends Clash Over Carrick's Permanent Manager Hopes.

Michael Carrick's stunning run as Manchester United interim boss has sparked a massive debate. Two club legends can't agree on whether he deserves the job full-time.

Wayne Rooney and Roy Keane are on opposite sides of this argument. And honestly, both have some pretty solid points.

Carrick has been absolutely brilliant since taking over. Seven wins from nine games tells the story. That's 22 points from 27 available, which has United sitting pretty in the race for Champions League football next season.

For punters keeping an eye on top-four odds, this form has been a game-changer. United have leapfrogged Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Chelsea in the betting markets for Champions League qualification.

Rooney Says It's a No-Brainer

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live after United beat Villa on Sunday, Rooney didn't hold back. He says Carrick deserves the job "100 per cent" and questioned why you'd even think about changing.

"I know him very well. I know his character and his personality," Rooney explained. "It needed a calm head, but someone who knows the place. The players needed some love, and he has given them that."

The results back up Rooney's point. Carrick beat both Manchester City and Arsenal right out of the gate in January. He's restored the 'United way' and got players performing as a team again.

Keane Thinks United Can Do Better

Roy Keane sees things differently. The former captain admits Carrick has done "a very good job" but thinks there are better options out there.

"I think there's better options out there," Keane said bluntly on Sky Sports. "He's obviously simplified things but there's been no jeopardy in those games."

Keane's main concern is experience. He points out that Carrick has never won trophies or competed in Europe as a manager. Fair point, but then again, neither had Pep Guardiola before Barcelona or José Mourinho before Porto.

When pushed for names, Keane mentioned Diego Simeone, Luis Enrique, and Thomas Tuchel as better alternatives. The problem? Tuchel just extended with England. Simeone has been at Atlético Madrid forever. And PSG reportedly want to tie down Enrique until 2030.

So those "better options" might not actually be available. Which means Carrick's impressive audition could seal the deal whether Keane likes it or not.

For those betting on United's next permanent manager, Carrick has gone from complete outsider to clear favourite in just three months. That's what winning does in football.
