Gio Reyna Scored a World Cup Goal — Then Announced He's Going to Be a Dad.

Giovanni Reyna scored a late goal to cap a 4-1 USMNT demolition of Paraguay, shoved the ball under his shirt, and sucked his thumb. Then he told the world why: his wife Chloe is pregnant with their first child.

"I've known for a couple of months now, so I was waiting for the perfect time," Reyna said after the match. "This sort of felt like it." Hard to argue with that logic.

Who is Chloe Reyna?

Chloe Ortolano grew up in Norwalk, Connecticut, and isn't just a footballer's partner — she's played the game herself. She was a starting defender and midfielder at Providence College from her sophomore year onward, logging 3,801 minutes of collegiate playing time. Before that, at Brien McMahon High School, she scored 52 goals, captained the team, and earned All-FCIAC First Team honours twice.

She now works in marketing, keeps a low social media profile, and has largely stayed out of the spotlight despite being married to one of the USMNT's most recognizable players.

The couple is believed to have started dating around 2020, when Reyna was breaking through at Borussia Dortmund and Chloe was still in college. Their relationship went public in 2021 via social media. They got engaged in June 2024 and married the following year.

What it means on the pitch

Reyna has spent chunks of his career battling injuries and inconsistency. A World Cup goal against Paraguay — on home soil, in front of a full crowd — is exactly the kind of moment he needed to stamp his place in this squad. With the USMNT facing Turkey on June 22, there's now a real question of whether that performance was a breakthrough or a high point. His odds of starting that match just got a lot more interesting.

Off the pitch, the news is straightforward: a goal, a celebration, and a pregnancy announcement watched by millions. Reyna posted on Instagram afterward — "Thank you LA! I love this team! Just the start!" The baby, presumably, agrees.
