Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 last time out and now sit three points behind with a game in hand. The title race isn't over — it's just entering its most pressurised stretch.

Arsenal have five games left. City have six. And both clubs are juggling cup commitments that could drain legs and disrupt rhythm at exactly the wrong moment.

The fixtures, laid out

Arsenal's run-in:

  • Arsenal vs Newcastle (April 25)
  • Arsenal vs Fulham (May 2)
  • West Ham vs Arsenal (May 10)
  • Arsenal vs Burnley (May 17)
  • Crystal Palace vs Arsenal (May 24)

Manchester City's remaining games:

  • Burnley vs Manchester City (April 22)
  • Everton vs Manchester City (May 4)
  • Manchester City vs Brentford (May 9)
  • Bournemouth vs Manchester City (May 17)
  • Manchester City vs Crystal Palace (May 22)
  • Manchester City vs Aston Villa (May 24)

City's game in hand comes first — away to Burnley on April 22. Win that, and they draw level on points. Win it by two or more, and goal difference swings in their favour too. That single fixture could reshape the entire picture before Arsenal even kick a ball this weekend.

The cup factor is real

Arsenal face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League semifinal — first leg April 29, second leg May 5. That's not a welcome distraction when you're scrapping for a league title on goal difference. Arteta will need to manage his squad carefully, and a deep European run has historically cost teams in the final Premier League stretch.

City face Southampton in the FA Cup semifinal on April 25 — the same Southampton side that knocked Arsenal out in the quarterfinal. Guardiola's workload is slightly less daunting in Europe, but it's still another game in the legs.

What happens if they finish level

First tiebreaker: goal difference. Arsenal currently lead narrowly, +37 to City's +36. Second: total goals scored, where City lead 65 to 63. Third: head-to-head record — and that one goes to City, who drew 1-1 at the Emirates in September and won the reverse fixture 2-1.

In other words, if these two sides end the season level on points and goal difference and goals scored, the title goes to Manchester City. That's the fine margin Arsenal are working against. Every goal conceded, every point dropped now carries extra weight — and City's odds of lifting the trophy will only shorten if they handle Burnley the way they're expected to.
