St Patrick's Athletic striker Aidan Keena has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for September after scoring four goals that kept the Saints in touch with champions Shamrock Rovers in the title race.
The 27-year-old scored against the Hoops, claimed a brace against Dundalk and netted the winner against Sligo Rovers during the month.
It is the fourth time Keena has won the award. He picked it up twice during his time at Sligo Rovers in 2022, and again in January 2025 after joining St Patrick's Athletic.
Keena finished ahead of fellow nominees Dawson Devoy of Bohemians and Adam O'Reilly of Derry City in the vote of football writers.
"It's a nice achievement," said the Mullingar native. "After all the hard work this season, it's good to be voted the best player for the month."
"We're where we want to be at this stage of the season. Shamrock Rovers have picked up again recently but, for us, three points against Shelbourne on Friday is all we're focusing on at the minute."
St Patrick's Athletic sit six points behind Shamrock Rovers but hold a game in hand. Having already secured European qualification, their focus is on making sure their final game of the season, away at home to Bohemians on 30 October, remains relevant for the title race. The two sides are currently level on 59 points.
