PAOK host Asteras Tripolis in the Greece Super League 1. PAOK have made a bright start to the campaign, while Asteras have found life much harder in the early rounds.
The two sides have met plenty of times down the years, with some tight, high-scoring games in that mix. How much of that history still applies with the gap between them growing is the interesting bit.

Asteras have had a rougher ride: six wins, nine draws and five defeats in their last 20, with goals shared fairly evenly at 23 for and 21 against. They've drawn a lot of matches rather than losing outright, but they haven't strung league wins together recently either.
PAOK's scoring form has been the headline, while Asteras have been more about avoiding defeat than winning games.
Comparative Team Statistics: PAOK vs Asteras Tripolis

A Long History, Recently Tilted PAOK's Way
These two have faced off close to twenty times stretching back years, with results swinging both ways over that period, including some heavy scorelines either side. That long record doesn't tell us much about where either side is right now.

More recently though, PAOK won 2-0 at home in March, and the reverse fixture at Asteras last September finished 3-3. The head-to-head has been closer than the current table suggests, even if PAOK have had the edge on their own ground lately.
PAOK's recent home record in this fixture looks stronger than the overall head-to-head history.
A Big Early Gap in the Table
Five games in, the numbers look lopsided. PAOK sit second with 12 points from four wins and just the one defeat. Asteras are down in 12th, picking up only two points after three losses and two draws.
| № | Team | Played | Win | Draw | Loss | GF/GA | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | Olympiakos Piraeus | 6 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 5/2 | 13 |
| 4 | PAOK | 6 | 4 | 0 | 2 | 13/8 | 12 |
| 5 | Aris Thessalonikis | 6 | 3 | 1 | 2 | 8/12 | 10 |
| 10 | Kalamata | 6 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 9/9 | 7 |
| 11 | Asteras Tripolis | 6 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 6/10 | 5 |
| 12 | Atromitos | 6 | 0 | 2 | 4 | 5/9 | 2 |
It's still early season, so there's time for things to shift, but right now PAOK are clearly playing at a higher level than their visitors.
A five-game sample is thin, but the early form gap between these two sides is already sizeable.

Where the Goals Are Coming From
Dimitris Pelkas leads the way for PAOK with three goals in five appearances, and Shoretire, Živković and Ndiaye have all chipped in too, spreading the goal threat around. Živković has also set up two for others, suggesting PAOK aren't just reliant on one man.
Asteras' attacking output looks thinner by comparison. Macheda has two goals and an assist in five matches, and there's little in the data to suggest anyone else has matched that output so far.
PAOK's goal threat looks more varied than Asteras', which could matter if the visitors need to chase the game.

Everything here points toward PAOK as the stronger side right now, from the table to the scoring form to the head-to-head. Asteras will need a big improvement from their recent output to trouble them.
With over a month to go until kick-off, and plenty of football for both sides to play before then, we'd rather watch how things develop than commit to a selection now.
