Claudio Ranieri has turned down the chance to become Italy's next manager, choosing instead to remain at AS Roma as senior advisor. The experienced manager confirmed his decision on Tuesday after being approached following Luciano Spalletti's dismissal.

Spalletti, 66, was sacked on Sunday after Italy suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Norway in their World Cup qualifier. The four-time world champions now find themselves in a difficult position as they search for new leadership.

"I thank President Gravina for the opportunity, a great honor, but I have reflected and decided to remain available to Roma in my new position totally," Ranieri told Italian news agency ANSA. His loyalty to Roma seems unwavering despite the prestigious national team offer.

Roma's Backing Wasn't the Issue

Interestingly, Ranieri revealed that Roma's owners, the Friedkins, had given him their complete support regardless of his decision. "The Friedkins gave me their full support and backing for whatever decision I had made regarding the national team but the decision is mine alone," he explained.

The 73-year-old Italian just recently retired from management for the second time after his successful stint at Roma last season. Under his guidance, Roma secured a fifth-place finish in Serie A, earning a valuable spot in the Europa League.

Gian Piero Gasperini has since taken over the managerial reins at Roma, coming in from Atalanta. This allowed Ranieri to transition into his advisory role with the club.

Italy's Managerial Crisis

Italy's search for a new manager comes at a critical time in their World Cup qualifying campaign. The heavy defeat to Norway has raised serious concerns about their prospects of reaching the tournament.

The Italian Football Federation President Gabriele Gravina must now look elsewhere for a manager capable of steering the Azzurri back on track. Ranieri would have brought valuable experience and stability to the role, having managed at the highest levels of club football.

For betting enthusiasts, Italy's managerial uncertainty could present interesting opportunities. The Azzurri's qualifying odds may drift as they navigate this period without a permanent coach, potentially offering value for those who believe they'll eventually right the ship.

Roma fans, meanwhile, will be delighted that Ranieri has chosen to continue his association with the club. His presence in an advisory capacity provides continuity and his wealth of experience will be invaluable as Gasperini implements his vision for the team.
