Alex Scott used to leave school early on Fridays to catch a flight. Not for holidays, but to chase his football dreams. From age 8, he'd fly from Guernsey to England for training sessions with Premier League academies.

Now, that dedication has paid off in spectacular fashion. Scott has just joined England's senior squad for the first time, with the 2026 World Cup in North America only seven months away.

"It took a lot for our parents, the amount of money and dedication they put in for us to dream of being footballers," Scott said on Tuesday. He gave a special nod to his step-sister Maya Le Tissier, who made the same journey and now plays for England's women's team.

Overcoming Setbacks

Scott's path to the Three Lions hasn't been smooth sailing. Southampton released him at 12, and after a brief stint with Bournemouth, he returned to Guernsey to enjoy a more normal childhood.

His professional journey began at Bristol City in the lower leagues. A move to Premier League Bournemouth in 2023 brought both opportunity and challenge, with injuries including a broken jaw limiting his playing time.

"Six years ago, I was playing non-league football for Guernsey in England's eighth tier," Scott reflected. "I wasn't even sure I was going to make it as a footballer, so to now be in the England team is a dream come true."

This season has seen Scott take his game to new heights. Bournemouth's impressive start to the campaign has helped catch England coach Thomas Tuchel's eye, potentially boosting the club's profile among bettors looking for Premier League value picks.

The 'Guernsey Grealish'

Fans have nicknamed Scott the "Guernsey Grealish" for his similarity to Jack Grealish. His ball-carrying style and trademark low socks mirror the Manchester City winger currently on loan at Everton.

Scott could form an exciting midfield partnership with Elliot Anderson. The two previously played together for England's Under-21s, and both have now earned senior call-ups.

England has already qualified for next year's World Cup but faces Serbia and Albania in upcoming qualifiers. These matches present perfect opportunities for Scott to stake his claim for a regular spot.

For betting enthusiasts, Scott's emergence adds an intriguing option to England's midfield depth chart ahead of the World Cup. His unique journey and playing style could make him an X-factor for the Three Lions in North America.

With his determination and technical ability, the Bournemouth midfielder represents both his tiny island home and the potential for unconventional paths to football's biggest stage. From Friday flights to the World Cup – Scott's journey proves sometimes the road less traveled leads to the greatest destinations.
